Henryk Berlewi (1894-1967) was an artist who particularly evades easy categorization. For over 50 years he worked as a painter, graphic designer, art critic and theoretician. Above all he was an innovator experimenting in radically different styles. He was an outstanding abstractionist recognized as a precursor of movements like op-art and minimal art. Equally important and interesting are his graphic and typographic designs.
